I was inspired by Shannon Sawyer's twinchies to make this fun birthday tag for a friend. I used the Lavender Lovelies collage sheet in the background like Shannon did. And I dug out my rub-ons and added them to my tag. What fun!
For this week, check out the gorgeous artwork made by our recent swap winners. Here's 2 twinchies made by our big swap winner: Shannon Sawyer. I love her purple hued color palette and I love her layers of rub-ons. Her gorgeous artwork inspired me to make....
For this week, make a collage or set of collages devoted to things that you love. I made this set of twinchies (2" square collages) for a recent ARTchix swap. It was so much fun!
For this week, make an ATC (or collage of any size) that features a beautiful bird or birds in it.
I made this ATC for our upcoming swap: Art Blast ATCs. It was so fun! I made this ATC with ARTchix images, pink tinfoil ornaments that I bought in Mexico ages ago and rub-ons.
The beautiful card from Paris brought to mind a painting that I did after James and I got married. This is a huge canvas that hangs in our dining area. First, I painted the background with ochre acrylic paint. Then I randomly glued on receipts from our honeymoon and misc. papers from our wedding. Next, I got out a big paintbrush and painted the heart on top of all of the papers and added the green background, etc. I also used a toothbrush to flick on paint and I put the paint on heavy in some places so that it would drip down. I really enjoyed painting this and it's such a special memento of our wedding day and honeymoon.
Now I've collected and saved the receipts and misc. papers from our recent trip to Europe. And I'm thinking about what I should do with them. I haven't decided exactly yet but I'm thinking something like this would be fun. Will be sure to show you when I do. : )
In the meantime, your art challenge for this week is to collect receipts and misc. papers from your week and then use them in a background for a collage of any size you'd like. You can paint over them or keep them as is, your choice. I just think it will be fun to play with receipts in our backgrounds. : )
When I was in Paris recently, I bought this beautiful card. If you look closely, this talented artist (Sophie Adde), made a background out of newsprint and ephemera. Then she painted on top of it with acrylic paints. I think it's absolutely gorgeous and so inspiring!
I read this great quote in a magazine and wanted to do something special with it. Right now, my big goal is to lose weight so having this by my desk helps keep me motivated. One morning, I got up early and just wrote out the quote in thick markers. Then I dug out my scrap bin and just glued down random scraps of paper and doodled a bit with watercolor crayons and pens. This took me about 20 minutes to do. Try it, it's so much fun!
I love this color combination! As you can see here, I made these ATCs featuring pink and blue flowers. It made me want to make lots more collages with this color scheme. Try it, you'll be hooked! : )
Earlier this year, I played with the tiger image that is found on my favorite tea package (Celestial Seasonings Bengal Spice). Well guess what, I drank another package's worth of tea and had another box to play with. Hence, I decided to bring back the kitty and play with him again!
For this week, add a kitty to your artwork.
I recently read a great article in Stampers Sampler. It was about creating a Masterboard which they describe as: "The artist first creates a "master" by layering many elements of color and graphics together on a page. The process should be reckless and random. Once satisfied, the artist makes several copies of the master. The copies are then used as backgrounds, panels and elements in other projects." What a fantastic idea!
I was so inspired that I immediately ran to my art supplies and created the masterboard shown here. It was so fun! I randomly glued down scraps of decorative papers and added ARTchix words and images. Then I highlighted areas with watercolor crayons and rubber stamps.
The art challenge for the next 2 weeks is to copy my masterboard shown here and make something out of it! Anything at all. My favorites will get to pick 3 ARTchix sheets of their choice as their prize. Woohoo!
This challenge was inspired by these fabulous bookmarks from our Paris swap. Laura Barnes created the ones on the far right and left and Eileen Terhaar Clark created the one in the center. I love how all of the figures are holding mini Eiffel Towers. Looks so fantastic!
For this week, make a piece of art that shows a person or animal holding something.
For this week, add a checkerboard to your art. I love making simple checkerboard backgrounds. In this piece, I tore bits of wrapping paper into squares and then glued them onto watercolor paper with a glue stick. Then I then rubbed the edges with watercolor crayons to blend the background together.
Next, I added the lovely woman, flower and words from our Tell Me a Story sheet. They say "be bright beautiful blooming bliss." Love it! I finished this collage by sewing on some pink seed beads.
For this week, play with two of my favorite colors: pink and green! I used this color palette when I made my Paris-themed bookmarks shown here. So much fun!
For these 2 weeks, make an inchie (1" square collage) and add it to a 4" square collage or an ATC (2.5" x 3.5"). It's wonderful to challenge yourself by combining little and big elements together. Have fun!
Here is the ATC that I made that is inspired by the vintage postcard. I had so much fun making it!
I recently came across this beautiful postcard in my collection. It features a giant gold scrap butterfly with a vintage image and some netting and satin ribbon. Just beautiful! For this art challenge, make a collage (or anything you'd like) that is inspired by this old postcard.
I made this collage and focused on adding sets of 3 (my lucky number and also this number of items is pleasing to look at). You'll find 3 butterflies, 3 of my kitty (the wings on the woman at the top are kitty ears), sets of 3 circles and the word "happy" is repeated 3 times. Fun, fun! : )
Every day this week, except for one day off, make an inchie (1" square collage). It's great to add a tiny dose of creativity to your days..they take minutes...and are so fun. Make 5 inchies in total for this art challenge.
This week, make 5 inchies (1" square collages) again. But this time, limit yourself to only 3 main items to play with. Here I played with our Green Decorative Papers, the Chixies Royal Purple Birds sheet and the packaging from my favorite tea: Celestial Seasonings Bengal Spice. Try to make one of your items a recycled item like a tea box, chocolate wrapping, wrapping paper, etc. It's great to add recycling to your art!
For the last 2 weeks, we've made inchies...how about we move up a size to twinchies (2" square collages)? I personally LOVE this size!
Last week, we made twinchies (2" square collages). This week, pick your favorite twinchie (or make a new one) and make something out of it. I made a fun necklace out of mine. How about framing yours in a unique way, turning it into a cool card or postcard, a fun piece of jewelry..the possibilities are endless.... : )
Inchies are a wonderful way to be creative most every day. While I was away on vacation, I made an inchie a day to celebrate what I learned and did that day. It was soo fun to do! Some inchies took 2 minutes...others took 15. I found the whole experience to be so uplifting that I want to encourage you to do it too. Please make at least 20 inchies this month using only 2-3 ARTchix sheets of your choice.

For this week, pick a color and make a monochromatic (one color) twinchie (2" square collage). I pulled out an assortment of green papers and cut, ripped and glued them into place. Then added a bit of embellishment with watercolor crayons and pencils. Fast, fun and easy. : )
This week, make a 2" square collage (twinchie) with analogous colors (3 colors next to eachother on the color wheel).
